Local artists for Rail2Dance – workshops have been selected

Riina Kalmi and Anthoni Levonsaari have been selected as the local dance artists of the Rail2Dance workshops in Vaasa.


In the workshops, an international group of artists from the Rail2Dance project, as well as a local reinforcement, will share ideas for the development and creation of performance interventions in public spaces. 2.6. The working period ends with a public performance in urban space. Kalmi and Levonsaari travel together with a group of core artists the next day to Umeå, where the work continues with local dance communities.

Riina Kalmi is a dance artist from Isojoki who works as a performer, creator and assembler in the free field of art in Finland and abroad. She is part of several collaborative ensembles and has worked as a dancer in works by Horacio Macuacua and Francesco Scavetta/Wee-Company, among others. Kalmi has graduated as a dance teacher from the Turku Art Academy and as a dancer from the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance.


Anthoni Levonsaari works as Drama Instructor (BA in Performing Arts), Dance and Somatics Instructor and performing artist. Since 2013 he has concentrated on butoh, which is a Japanese contemporary dance and dance theatre form. Art which is intertwined with the natural world currently inspires Anthoni, as well as a lived body with its experiences and reminiscences.
